RUSSEL TOURNAMENT: Colby Sweet Thunder 10 and under team was just one win away from playing in the championship game for the third weekend in a row. On Saturday at the Russell Tournament, Sweet Thunder won both of their pool play games by beating Russell Rage 14-4 and Hays Heat 2-1. The batting leaders for the Russell Rage game were Courtney Reilley (2 for 2 with 2 RBIs), Hailey Schindler (2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs) and Darby Sager (1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs); Kylee Martin was the pitcher with 10 strike outs. The Hays Heat game was a lot closer Brooklyn Bange hit in Audrey Puckett for the winning run with a fielder’s choice to the short stop. Sunday started bracket play. Colby Sweet Thunder played Salina Stars first round and won 13-0. Martin went 1 for 1 with two walks and Sager went 2 for 3. Martin and Taylor Lemman shared pitching duties. The only loss of the weekend came against Larned Renegades 2-7. Martin again led the batting by going 1 for 2 with a double and 1 RBI. Martin and Lemman again pitched. Sweet Thunder beet Hays Heat 9-5 to take 3rd place in the tournament. The bats were lead by Martin (1 for 3 with a triple), with Brooklyn Bange, Elissa Zerr and Gabriel Wilson each adding a hit. Martin was the starting pitcher and was relieved by Desi Schippers in the final inning. The next action for the Sweet Thunder 10 and under team will be Saturday, June 21 at the Colby Tournament. BELOIT TOURNAMENT: Sweet Thunder 10 and under traveled to Beloit on Saturday, June 7 for a tournament. They finished in second place. The first game against Manhattan Opt Sting was a loss 0-9. Kylee Martin got Sweet Thunder’s only hit. Martin also pitched and Taylor Lemman came in to finish the game. Then they played the Beloit Bomz and won 4-3. Desi Schippers led Sweet Thunder by going 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Lemman and Martin pitched. The last pool play game was against Concordia Crush. Sweet Thunder won 16-2. Tessa Krzycki was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and Schippers was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. Martin pitched. Sweet Thunder was seeded #2 and played #1 Manhattan Opt Sting for a chance at the Championship. The Sting was a good team and beat Colby 9-2. Schippers led again by going 1 for 1 with 1 RBI. Martin again pitched. Each player got a medal for 2nd place. Team members are Kylee Martin, Tessa Krzycki, Hailey Schindler, Desi Schippers, Taylor Lemman, Elissa Zerr, Audrey Puckett,Courtney Reilley, Autumn Korthanke Brooklyn Bange and Darby Sager Coaches are Shannon and Lynette Martin and Stacey Lemman. Sweet Thunder 10 and under will be playing in the Russell Tournament next weekend, June 14-15. |
HAYS TOURNAMENT: Sweet beginning for Sweet Thunder. Colby's 10 and Under Softball team started the season by winning the Hays Tournament Sunday in Hays.In pool Play Saturday lost the first game to the Larned Renegades 4-2. Colby was led by Kylee Martin who was 1-3 with Two RBIs. Martin pitched all Five innings and Had 12 Strikeouts. In the second game of the day,Colby beat the Ellis Lady Flames 13-6 led by Martin and Darby Sager who were both 2-2 with four RBIs.Martin,Tessa Krzycki and Brooklyn Bange Pitched the three innings Colby won their last game Saturday 12-3 over Hays Heat lead by Sager(1-3 with a double and three RBIs).Martin pitched all four innings, had nine strikeouts and walked only one. Sunday was the start of bracket play where Colby was seeded first. They played the Ellis Lady Flames again and won 16-7. Krzycki led the way going 2-2 with four RBIs and Taylor Lemman was 1-1 with four RBIs and Lemman also pitched all three innings and had seven strikeouts. Sweet thunder met up with the Larned Renegades in the Championship game and beat them again 8-2 led by Krzycki who was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.Martin pitched the four innings and had eight strikeouts The team got a trophy and each player received a T-shirt for winning the Tournament.The team members are Autumn Korthanke,Taylor Lemman,Elissa Zerr, Kylee Martin,Darby Sager,Tessa Krzycki,Courtney Reilley,Desi Schippers,Brooklyn Bange,and Audrey Puckett.They are coached by Shannon and Lynnette Martin,Stacey Lemman and Skyler Mengel. Their next action will be Saturday at the Beloit Tournament. |
10/U WINS STATE QUALIFIER AT HOME After five games and almost nine hours, Colby’s Sweet Thunder 10 and under won 1st place in the Colby Tournament on Saturday at the City Rec fields. Sweet Thunder started strong with an 11 run first inning against Garden City Razzles, but the Razzles fought back and tied the game in the fourth inning making the game go into ITB. Garden City won the game 14-13. Sweet Thunder had to fight back to get back into the Championship game. They beat Ellis Flames twice 18-6 and 10-8. Sweet Thunder then had to meet up with Garden City Razzles again and by beating them 11-4 had to play them again before they could actually claim the championship. The fifth game of the day found Colby Sweet Thunder beating the Razzles 17-5. Every Sweet Thunder player reached base and scored at least once throughout the day. Highlights of the day’s batting included Gabrielle Wilson going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Kylee Martin was 7 for 13 including two doubles and two triples with 13 RBIs and Tessa Krzycki went 4 for 8 with 5 RBIs, Brooklyn Bange added two doubles, Elissa Zerr had a triple and a single, Darby Sager had a homerun and two singles, and the rest of the team added 13 more singles. Martin was the main pitcher for the day with 28 strike outs and only 10 walks. Taylor Lemman relieved Martin in game 2 and started game 3. Colby Sweet Thunder 10 and under will be playing in the Hill City tournament this next weekend. |
10/U WINS LAST TOURNAMENT OF SEASON @ HILL CITY Pool play on Saturday, June 28 began with Sweet Thunder 10 and under playing Hays Heat. Colby won 13-7 led by Darby Sager (2 for 2 with 2 RBIs), Taylor Lemman (1 for 2 with 1 RBI), Brooklyn Bange (1 for 2 with 1 RBI) and Tessa Krzycki (1 for 3 with 1 RBI). Kylee Martin and Elissa Zerr shared the pitching. Colby won their second game against Hill City Rec 15-1. Leading batters were Martin (a homerun), Bange (a triple), and Desi Schippers and Krzycki (a double each). Martin, Schippers and Bange pitched. Afternoon bracket play had Sweet Thunder in first, so they played Hill City Rec again and won 12-7. Schippers, Lemman and Hailey Schindler were the pitchers. Krzycki, Martin, Sager and Elissa Zerr each had a double, and Bange had a homerun during this game. Championship game had Colby Sweet Thunder against Hays Heat. Colby won 16-1. Martin was the pitcher. Sager, Schippers, Schindler and Lemman each had a hit for the Thunder and Martin had two hits to help with the win. Thank you to the players, the parents, and the coaches for the great summer! Final action for this Sweet Thunder 10 and under team will be at the State Tournament in Wichita July 11-13. The Coaches are Lynette and Shannon Martin and Stacey Lemman. The players include Brooklyn Bange, Autumn Korthanke, Tessa Krzycki, Taylor Lemman, Kylee Martin, Audrey Puckett, Courtney Reilley, Darby Sager, Hailey Schindler, Desi Schippers, Gabrielle Wilson and Elissa Zerr.
